Noticing Again For The First Time

To see something anew again for the first time. Witnessing the majesty of a sunset and all of a sudden you are connected to the life-force energy of the planet—although you experience it everyday. But this time it is new again and energizing as your awareness shifts focus. You are connected.

The majesty of a Sunburst guitar finish—for the first time again—3 Color Burst to be more accurate.

Maybe you do and maybe you don’t actually know what 3 Color Burst looks like—when it comes from Anderson Guitarworks. And especially on a Flame Maple top and in a Teardrop shape. That is a little bit more unique.

We all have seen 3 Color Burst. Since the late 50’s it has been a primary guitar paint scheme—as soon as the center red color was added to the original 2 Color Burst from the early 50’s.

But everyone does their version slightly differently—of course. At Anderson Guitarworks we strive for richness and depth in all our finishes.

So for our 3 Color, we do it as an opulent autumn yellow center, bursting outward to a robust autumn red and onward to a deep transparent brown outer edge—gorgeous depth of hues throughout.

But this Cobra S is unique in many ways. Most obvious is the invisible moose head with antlers engraved within the wood grain itself.

STOP! Editor’s note: There is no invisible moose head or antlers engraved anywhere in this guitar or present in the photos. The author has temporarily (hopefully) lost his sense of literary direction. Thank you for your understanding. We now return you to our regularly scheduled Guitar Tales.

But this Cobra S is unique in many ways. Most obvious is the balanced set of 3 PQ—soapbar style—pickups, delivering huge and impressively aggressive single coil tones—while still boasting the broader and more musical bandwidth indicative of single coil pickups. All done while hum-canceling.

Yes, this is a Cobra S. At first glance it looks like it could be a Drop Top—gorgeous Maple Top dropped and swooping over the forearm contour for maple beauty and comfortable playability—all at the same time. An Anderson creation many years ago.

Cobra S does share that same Drop Top tech but what makes a Cobra S unique in the S family—and an entity all to itself—is its superstructure.

• Short Scale length: 24 3/4-inch.

• Mahogany body back (Okoume or Limba).

• Mahogany neck back.

All this together equates to a more powerful mid focus instrument that “takes no prisoners,” and can also be noticeably easier to play for many, as string tension is lessened and reach is foreshortened.

Yes, Cobra S with PQ pickups can be something else wonderful and advantageous to notice, again for the first time, as you are now more enabled and inclined to rule over your single coil musical universe with impressive, midrange muscle, extra dimension and unparalleled playability.
