And the Anniversary bash continues with much more to commemorate.

As you probably know by now:

In celebration, only 40 Limited Edition, 40th Anniversary Guitars will be created. 20 unique builds. This essentially means two renditions of each exclusive instrument—with a variant here and there.

The Drop Top Classic first appeared on the music scene in 1991—a few months after the debut of our Drop Top. The Drop Top Classic revolutionized the classic pickguard, S-style guitar with a gorgeous Maple Top that swooped (dropped) over the comfortable forearm contour—supported structurally and tonally by a traditional wood back. A happy and welcome industry-changing innovation in guitar building—gorgeous maple beauty and wonderful tone, all in one magnificent classic instrument.

Shortly following its introduction we posted it—to a physical poster. At that time there was no such thing as “posting” otherwise. To post you needed a hang-in-your-room style poster to adorn the wall of your studio or office. Could make your space look so cool. Fun, online posting was to come much later.

This Transparent Blue, Drop Top Classic was the “poster child” for Anderson Guitarworks as its beauty graced those glossy poster sheets. Transparent Blue was a wildly popular color of that era for both the Drop Top and Drop Top Classic. If you saw Transparent Blue like this you knew the guitar had to be an Anderson.

You can see this original poster peeking out right now from the background in some of the studio shots of this new Transparent Blue, 40th Anniversary, Limited Edition Drop Top Classic.

And if that wasn’t already enough fun, there is a story concerning our first and only print poster. We heard it second hand but will pass it on to you. Is it true? We think that it is.

During the creation of the MTV Show, Beavis & Butt-head, apparently the writers were trying to come up with a name for Beavis & Butt-head’s neighbor, a character that would be a regular on the show. Glancing around the room they caught a glimpse of a poster on the wall—one of their favorite guitars—a Drop Top Classic in Transparent Blue and thought…

Hey, let’s call this guy: Tom Anderson. And Beavis & Butt-head’s neighbor was born. Great name, don’t you think? Ha.

We have wonderful friends all around the world. This one is headed to Hiendguitar (pronounced: high end guitar) in Indonesia.
