Before We Dropped It

No one had.

We are not talking about “butter fingers” type dropping here. We are talking about top dropping. An Anderson original—debuting on the famous Drop Top in 1990, followed almost immediately by the more vintage-flavored and “classy” Drop Top Classic.

Here’s the origin story of the S and all its modifications to become the industry-changing Drop Top Classic:

Early in the 80s, S-style guitars were in an exceedingly exciting transitional state, transforming from their original 3 single-coil, vintage tremolo layout to a super-versatile instrument that could adeptly negotiate almost any type of music. Our offering at that time, The Classic and the Pro Am.

And then…a few years later, bountiful wood beauty became the next evolution for the “S.”

This was first implemented by the use of all-hardwood bodies. Yes, they could be gorgeous looking, but from our performance-first-oriented perspective, we really felt a far better design was needed in order to retain those vitally rich and lush tonal qualities.

Always in the pursuit of excellence…

Enter the musical-life-changing Drop Top and Drop Top Classic. A profound S-style electric guitar, totally tonally supported by a tone-wood body back, topped with a gorgeous maple top that is “dropped” (swooped) over a forearm contour to create an instrument imbued with ultra-playing comfort, lush tone and profound beauty, all in one magnificent masterpiece that you will not want to stop playing.

May we now present the second Transparent Blue, Drop Top Classic from our Limited Edition, 40th Anniversary celebration collection.

This Anniversary edition guitar is very reminiscent of the Drop Top Classic that appeared on our original poster. In those days, when you saw Transparent Blue with natural wood Binding, you knew it had to be an Anderson.

And yes, this is an Anderson—the ultimate feeling, playing and sounding electric guitar. Headed to Hunan MusicMatrix in China, they are delighted and so are we. Working hand in hand across the globe. So good. Music has always had that benevolent power. And we love it.
