They Returned To Find…Nothing

Nothing at all. Nowhere to be found.

And so the search must continue.

You should probably suit up now in your extreme expedition and gigging gear. Select your favorite Anderson guitar, strap in, and we'll head out under the cover of darkness, only illuminated by stage lights.

Fill me in as we go. What is our assignment?

Raven! And here is what we need to be on the lookout for:

First, there are its curvaceous and gracefully outspoken Offset body lines. This one hauntingly captivating in a never-before-seen, Black with Gold Dog Hair finish, the gold highlights annunciating its body's intrinsic swamp ash grain. Strikingly gorgeous and beautifully unique.

Pay extra special attention to its Blackheart fingerboard atop a Caramel Maple, slim-medium depth, Even-Taper +.030 neck back shape. It will call you to virtually glide across its glistening Medium-Jumbo, stainless steel frets. What an inspiring neck to play—so fast and easy. A favorite among guitar players everywhere.

Listening intently to the inherent timbre of this impressively resonant instrument, pickup power is provided by a mixed and matched set of PH1 (soapbar sound) in the neck position and HC2 (humbucker) at the bridge. All controlled by a Big 3-Way toggle switch and two mini cut-switches, for eight, intuitively easy to access and exquisitely useful sounds.

So we did it, apparently. We have successfully uncovered everything awesome we set out to discover on this expedition—well, all except for one thing, anyway.

What’s that?

Nothing…

There is nothing—under the strings—surrounding the pickups, there is only lush tone wood and beautiful paint.

Where is the Pickguard? Where did it go? Doesn't a Raven have a pickguard?

What…? You know, you did ask that very same question, several times, in last week's Guitar Tales. Remember? The one where we took far too long explaining the emergence of the all-new Raven. The Raven—a guitar without a pickguard.

But my guess is that it either dropped off over the Serengeti during our exploits or this guitar never actually had a pickguard in the first place. Now, in this particular situation, the “never actually had a pickguard in the first place” hypothesis is a much more likely scenario.

Especially…since this is the brand-new Anderson Guitarworks Raven. The Anderson Raven is just like the Raven Classic but without a classic Pickguard. The new Raven boasts a smooth and fast swooping offset body—completely unfettered (and un-feathered) by pickguard styling.

So what we are trying to say here is that the all-new Raven and Raven Superbird do not have a classic pickguard to be found anywhere upon its streamlined surface. They are simply sleek and clean with pickups and wood taking center stage.

It is the Raven Classic and the Raven Superbird Classic that both bound forward with Classic Pickguard styling—hence the name “Classic.”

So now…you can get your Raven—either way you want it.

Tony, where are you?

Yes, this extremely gorgeous new Raven was specced by the one-and-only Tony Higbee at Nashville’s Guitar Center. He seems to always have a “coolest-guitar-ever,” 6th sense. Or, should that be 6-string sense? Either way, he has profoundly proved it once again with this remarkable Raven, now landing at Nashville’s Guitar Center.
